How to prepare for your bridal session

Hello Bride-To-Bee’s Since this is most likely the first time you’ve had bridal portraits taken, you may be looking for a few tips on how to prepare for your session. Having shot many, many bridal portraits, I am happy to share some insight and bridal session tips!

1. Plan your hair and makeup trial for the day of your session! Make this a full on day of pampering ladies! You will feel so much more confident leaving the details to the professionals.

2. Bring your veil with you but put it in halfway through the session. It’s so much easier to mess up perfectly done locks when taking the veil OUT. Let’s get a few shots of you without your veil and then we can add it in later!

3. Bring your MOH or Mom with you to help carry the train or hold your veil or feed you a few sips of champagne :-) You and I can definitely make it work alone but I’ve found that having a bestie or your mom along really enhances your experience.

4. **Getting real here** Don’t wear your bra for a few hours beforehand if you have a backless dress! On your wedding day this isn’t a problem but a bridal session typically happens around sunset so you’ve had all day for those lovely bra lines to sink into your back! Eeek!

5. Since you’re having your hair and makeup trial, why not do a trial run of your bouquet as well?! It’s just an extra prop that can be really handy to have! If your exact flowers aren’t in season just grab a few like-colors or ask your florist if there’s a fake bouquet that you could rent.

6. Make sure you clean your diamond!! I’ll be doing a few close-up ring shots so you want to make sure it sparkles like the day you first received it!

7. Bring some water bottles!! Posing is actually kind of hard work and with your heavy dress you could work up a little bit of a sweat. It’s important to have some water on hand in case you need it.

8. Feel free to bring a few props along! If you’re not sure of something, ask me and we’ll figure out what could work!

9. Accept that your dress will get a little bit dirty. To get the most beautiful shots we’ll need to risk it a little and your hemline might have a few smudges on it by the time we’re finished. Of course, I’m not going to make you roll in the mud or anything drastic but just know and be prepared for the fact that walking around outside in your dress may make the undersides a little dirty. Schedule your last cleaning for AFTER our session.

10. Location! Both outdoor and indoor locations can be stunning for bridal portraits.  It is important to remember that many places require permits or rental fees to take photos on their property. Your wedding venue is always a great option. Many venues will allow you to take your bridal photos there at no extra cost

Lastly, Relax and HAVE FUN!!! This time is all about you and how BEAUTIFUL you look! Enjoy it!

Floresville Texas Wedding

“Love is friendship that has caught fire."

Heather and Jeremiah met as teenagers.  They were friends for many years, before they fell in love.  They were married on a warm March day in Floresville, Texas. The ceremony and reception were held outdoors on the sister and brother-in-law of the bride’s sprawling, oak filled property.  Heather and Jeremiah were joined by their family, their closest friends and co-workers, and their adorable son.

Heather wore a gorgeous white gown, with lace and beading details on the sweetheart bodice and a full skirt with a train.  Her chestnut brown hair was worn half up in cascading ringlets. Jeremiah looked handsome in jeans and cowboy boots with a black vest, maroon necktie, and a black cowboy hat.  Their son, wore the same outfit as his Daddy, in true “mini-me” fashion.

Heather walked down a satin aisle holding a fragrant bouquet of maroon and light pink flowers accented with eucalyptus.  She met her beaming groom at a handmade wooden arbor, accented with candles and flowers. A sermon was given and the couple exchanged heartfelt handwritten vows.  The big surprise came when the couple gifted the Father of the Bride an actual cow! The Father of the Bride was presented with a picture of his new cow and given instructions that it was ready for pick up on Monday!  After sealing their union with a kiss, it was time for the party to begin.

A delicious homemade dinner, drinks, and a candy bar was served to guests who dined under a white marquee. A DJ played music as Heather, Jeremiah and their guests danced under the stars in to the late hours of the night.

Congratulations Heather and Jeremiah!  We wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Associate Photographer

After several years of being unable to accommodate some weddings because I was either already booked, or the bride and groom were on stricter budget, I decided it was time to add an associate program to ARA Photography. I have worked many years building my brand, so how could I just turn over weddings to someone else to shoot with my name on it? Well, with the strict requirements and expectations set forth for my associate photographers,  finding the right photographer(s) to represent my studio has always presented challenges. Since i'm not looking to add 20 photographers to my team (it’s not the way I conduct business), finding the perfect fit took many years.  Then, I met my  “creative twin”. I will talk more about her later in this post.  She has the same goals, vision, expertise, and passions as I do. She champions building relationships and loving our clients the way that I do. She is a very talented wedding photographer, and I’m so honored to welcome her to my team.

The “ARA Photography Associate” program is perfect for couples on a limited budget who want to enjoy all of the advantages of working with my studio. My associate possesses a similar style as myself. All of the photo editing will be done by me (yours truly) so you will still receive my personal artistic touch on your photographs. All product fulfillment will still be provided by the ARA Photography brand, and because my studio will oversee all of the client care, communication & product fulfillment, and it will free up the associate photographer to do what she love most; Shooting your beautiful weddings!  We will be able to offer top notch photography services at a more affordable rate. You are not "settling"  when you hire my team, they are an extension of me. All ARA brides, both mine and the associates, will always be treated with love, respect, and care. I hope you enjoy my very first Associate, Jessica! I promise you will fall in love with her too!
